Welcome New Kumamoto JETs!
Only a few more weeks until the excitement of your Kumamoto adventure begins! Hopefully by now you have heard from your predecessor or contracting organization. We hope that your pre-departure preparations are coming along nicely. While we are sure you are ready to get on the plane to Japan as soon as possible, make sure to enjoy your time at home as well!
The site you are on right now, KumamotoJET.com contains a lot of information on living and working in Kumamoto. Feel free to peruse it at your leisure.
Looking forward to seeing you soon here in Kumamoto!

Leavers' Meeting Photos
On Friday, June 26, Kumamoto Prefecture said farewell to some of its favorite people. 42 non-reappointing JETs from Kumamoto Prefecture and Kumamoto City gathered at the Suizenji Kyosai Kaikan in Kumamoto City for farewell speeches, group discussions about their time in Kumamoto, and one last Kumamon Taisou.

Here are some pictures of our "graduating" JETs. Good luck to all of you!

The 2015 Guide for Non-reappointing JETs
aka "Leaver's Guide"

...is finally here! This handy packet includes information for non-reappointing JETs on such fascinating topics as sending your stuff home, return airfare, visas, pension refunds, selling your car, saying goodbye, employment post-JET, and more.
Please take the time to read through this packet sooner rather than later.  We recommend that you start planning now on how to do everything so you have time to spare at the end. Your last months on JET will fly by, and you don't want the last several weeks of your time on JET to be bogged down by paperwork or other details that can take away from other important things, such as saying goodbye to friends and colleagues.
We have uploaded the information packet as a pdf and powerpoint.  Take your pick:
Introducing the 2015-2016 KumAJET Team!

Front: Audrienne (Amakusa City), Olivia (Asagiri Town)
The KumAJET representatives for the 2015-2016 JET year have been decided! You can find out more information each of the new representatives on the KumAJET section of the website! You can also read more about them and the upcoming KumAJET events for the year in the summer issue of the YOKA (to be published soon)!
What is KumAJET?

KumAJET is the local chapter of the Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching (AJET). AJET is a national volunteer organization of JET Programme participants whose mission is to serve the JET community by building support networks, organizing useful information, and offering resources to enhance the lives of JETs (more info on AJET and all of their great resources at ajet.net).

KumAJET is a group that brings people together to have fun and make friends throughout Kumamoto. Whether you're looking to volunteer, have a night out on the town, or explore some of  Kumamoto's scenery, we are the group for you. Although KumAJET is run by JETs, our events are open to all residents of Kumamoto, both foreign and Japanese. Along with planning KumAJET events we also hope to get more JETs out to other events going on in the prefecture by advertising for them on our Facebook page and website (kumajet.org). Our main goals are to provide opportunities for our members to meet new people, see new places, and make great memories during their time in Japan while giving as much back to our communities as we possibly can.

New World Heritage Sites in Kumamoto
On July 5th, UNESCO designated the "Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining" as a World Heritage site. The sites are actually spread across several prefectures in Japan, two of them being located right here in Kumamoto. They are the Manda Coal Mine in Arao City and Misumi West Port in Uki City.
