 Reappointment Information
Information about reappointment has been sent to all contracting organizations.  If you haven't yet received the information talk to your tantosha.

There are some general changes to the re-appointment process this year. Previously, JET participants had to submit an Intent Form indicating their desire to be reappointed, the CO would give the JET their Intent Form indicating their intent to reappoint the JET participant or not, and the JET participant would sign their new terms and conditions in the summer. From this year, the first step has been removed. Now, a CO will simply give its JET one of two forms (A-1 or A-2) by January 18. If a JET participant gets Form A-1, the CO wants to reappoint him/her, and the JET participant simply needs to indicate his/her desire to accept or not accept reappointment by signing the appropriate section and returning it to the CO. If the CO gives the JET participant Form A-2, then the CO does not intend to reappoint the JET participant, based on work performance or other reasons (such as a policy of keeping JET participants for X number of years, budget cuts, etc.).  In cases of those "other reasons," the JET participant is eligible to request a transfer by the designated deadline if the CO is able to recommend the JET. All JET participants are encouraged to speak openly about reappointment with their CO supervisor early.

NOTE:  If you are handed the A-1 form with the rest of the reappointment information, it does not necessarily mean your contracting organization has decided to reappoint you.  Rather, some contracting organizations may choose to give a blank copy of the form to ALTs to show them that, if indeed the CO wants to reappoint the JET, this is what the form will look like.  The official A-1 forms will probably be handed to JETs closer to January 18, 2013, which is the deadline for COs to inform their JETs of their intention to reappoint or not.  The official A-1 form will be filled by your CO and all you will have to do is check the appropriate boxes and sign.  If you have any questions about whether or not your CO plans to reappoint you please consult with your tantosha.

ALT Opinion Exchange Meeting
Every year ALTs are invited to apply for the ALT Opinion Exchange Meeting, which is held in Tokyo. This Opinion Exchange Meeting is an opportunity for ALTs to share constructive opinions about the planning, implementation and management of the JET Programme with representatives from CLAIR and the three sponsoring ministries.  A total of ten ALTs will be invited to come and take part in the meeting. Each ALT will present a report on a topic of his/her choice on issues related to the JET Programme.  If you are interested in participating, please speak to your tantousha.  The paperwork should have been or is in the process of being sent to your respective COs.  You can also find details and the application online here on the official JET Programme website.  The due date for the application is the 7th November.
