Class/Grade/Language Level: Yunomae Elementary Class 6th grade

Textbook and specific lesson: Hi Friends, Lesson 5 Let's go to Italy!, 3rd Lesson. (Part 2 of introduction to I want to go to~ to see/to eat~) (Part 1 included PowerPoint of places/ things to see/eat)

Goal: Students will be able to answer “Where do you want to go?” with I want to go to (country) to see/to eat ~

Preparation: To see/ to eat cards, country flag cards, Hi Friends 2 Textbook, English Class Passport

Class time: 45 minutes

Greeting- 3 minutes
Ask the students “How are you?” “How’s the weather?” “What day is it?” “What time is it?”

Warm Up- 5-7 minutes. Row Game Interview (Where do you want to go?)
Students line up and ask the person behind them “Where do you want to go?” “I want to go to~” The questions go back and forth until the beginning and the first row to finish sits down.

Review- 10 minutes (Review places to see/ eat from different countries)
Based on previous class’s PowerPoint, show things/places to see/eat cards and ask what countries they are from.
Example: (Picture of Statue of Liberty) “What country?” (America)
(Picture of Paella) “What country?” (Spain)

Introduce- 10 minutes (To see/ to eat) I want to go to ________ to eat/ to see ______________.)
Demonstration with Home Room Teacher, “Where do you want to go?” “I want to go to Italy to eat Pizza”
“Where do you want to go?” “I want to go to France to see the Eiffel Tower”
Home Room Teacher will ask students what we added to our sentences. Introduce “To see” and “To eat” verbs by using vocabulary cards. Put “To see” as one category and “To eat” as another. Ask the students to categorize the places to see and things to eat into the “To see” or “to eat” categories.
Example: Crepe (To eat), Great Wall of China (To see)

Practice- 13 minutes Interview games (3 rounds- First round in partner, second round with 3 people, and third round with 6 people) (In their Hi! Friends Textbook, there is an interview section)
Demonstrate with Home Room Teacher “Where do you want to go?” “I want to go to ~ to see/to eat~”
Explain Interview game, Round 1 in pairs “Where do you want to go?” “I want to go to~ to see/to eat~”
Round 2 they must find 3 students and ask them “Where do you want to go?” *I want to go to~ to see/to eat~”
Round 3 they must find 6 students and ask them “Where do you want to go?” *I want to go to~ to see/to eat~”

Ending Class- 2 minutes (Short review- ask a student) and Goodbyes.
Before ending class, ask for a few student volunteers; ask them “Where do you want to go?” They get a prize. (In our English class, we use English passports that students collect stickers in)
Finish with “That’s all, Stand up Please. Good bye Everyone, Thank You! See you next week!”
