Name of Teacher: Margo Shine

Class/Grade/Language Level: Elementary 5th and 6th grade

Textbook and specific lesson: Practice alphabet

This activity has worked well with higher-level shogakko kids. At the beginning of class I hand out alphabet cards (one to each student) and have them squat behind their desk. Then I play an ABC rap and when students hear their letter, they must jump up with their card in the air. This has been a good way for kids to learn alphabet order as well as recognizing romaji. Once kids get used to this activity, I will often ask them to shuffle cards amongst their friends for extra practice.
